The Veterinary Industry

The aim of the industry is to produce products for both companion and livestock animals that will contribute to their health and wellbeing. Huntingdon Life Sciences provides a comprehensive service to support the industry in meeting regulatory requirements in the fields of efficacy, target animal and human safety, and product quality.

Livestock animals

Only healthy animals produce safe and wholesome food. Animal health products contribute to economic and environmentally-friendly livestock farming. In a situation without veterinary medicines, animals would suffer and that would clearly be unacceptable.

Moreover, to obtain the same food production level as today without veterinary medicines, experts say it would require an increase by 25% of the poultry population and an increase by 89% of the cattle population. The direct impact on the production systems and the environment would be deleterious.

Companion animals

Veterinary medicines and vaccines help to keep them healthy and permit the human / animal interaction that benefits human physical, emotional and psychological well-being.

Registration : the Passport to the Market

Veterinary products are subject to a series of strict regulations and stringent testing requirements. The objectives of registration are to ensure:

  • The safety of the product for the animal, the consumer of food derived from treated animals, the user and the environment
  • The high quality and stability of the product
  • The efficacy of the product and conformity with the claims made

Working in partnership with our customers, we are helping to develop and register veterinary pharmaceutical and biological products for use either in farm or companion animals.

We help sponsors to comply with this legislation and build well-structured marketing authorisation applications. This includes all the studies needed to support the three major aspects on which a dossier is based; Quality, Safety and Efficacy
