Food. We can’t live without it and neither can our animals. But we need
to be sure it is safe to eat. In recent years the food industry has experienced
unexpected crises in food safety and this has resulted in increased government
legislation and more strict testing regimes. The availability of different foods
has increased the awareness of intolerances and allergies.
Many of our foods and animal feeds today have been processed to some degree.
This may include adding ingredients to flavour, colour or prolong shelf-life.
Although the quantities of additives are small, they must be tested for safety.
Many foods have properties beyond their nutritional value. Dietary supplements
and other health food ingredients (neutraceuticals) need to have proven safety
and efficacy.
Our understanding of plant genetics has enabled the development of crops with
new characteristics of herbicide and insect resistance, as well as improved
nutritional content. These crop varieties are subjected to rigorous comparison
with their traditional counterparts for the assessment of safety to man and
the environment.
Working in partnership with our customers, we aim to ensure that our foods
are as safe as possible for us and our animals.
