Genetic Toxicology

The components of large biological molecules, for example amino acids, are not expected to interact directly with DNA or other chromosomal materials. It is therefore not necessary to subject these molecules to the range and type of genotoxicity studies required for conventional small-molecule pharmaceuticals.

Sometimes, there may be particular concerns about the candidate therapeutic because it contains one or more novel chemical linkers. In these cases some genetic toxicology will be required.
